The World Health Organization (WHO) chief, Tedros Adhanom, has arrived in the Syrian city of Aleppo to assess the health situation in the wake of a devastating earthquake that hit the region. Aleppo, one of the country’s largest cities, was among the areas hardest hit by the quake, which caused widespread destruction and left thousands of people in need of aid and medical assistance.

Tedros Adhanom, who is on a mission to assess the health needs of the quake-affected populations, was received by local authorities and health officials upon his arrival in Aleppo. He is expected to visit several health facilities in the city and hold meetings with local health authorities and communities to understand the extent of the health impact of the disaster.

The WHO chief is also expected to discuss the organization’s response to the disaster with local health officials and partners. The WHO has already mobilized its resources to provide emergency health assistance to the quake-affected populations, including medical supplies, mobile health clinics, and emergency health teams.

The earthquake that hit Syria on February 11th has caused widespread destruction and displacement, leaving many people in urgent need of aid and medical assistance. The quake, which had a magnitude of 5.2, was felt across several provinces in northern Syria, including Aleppo, Idlib, and Hama. According to local authorities, the disaster has caused significant damage to health facilities and other critical infrastructure, making it difficult for people to access health services.

In addition to the immediate health needs of the quake-affected populations, the WHO is also concerned about the potential long-term health impacts of the disaster, including the spread of infectious diseases, such as cholera, and the risk of mental health problems among the affected communities.

In conclusion, the arrival of the WHO chief, Tedros Adhanom, in Aleppo is a crucial step towards understanding the health needs of the quake-affected populations and ensuring that adequate health assistance is provided to those in need. The WHO’s efforts to respond to the disaster will be critical in mitigating the health impact of the quake and ensuring that the affected communities receive the health assistance they need to recover.
