The Delhi Government is all set to introduce yoga and meditation classes in all its government schools through the ‘999 Challenge’ initiative. Starting on April 18, the program will entail nine rounds of Surya Namaskar and nine minutes of meditation every day for nine consecutive days.

Before the official rollout of the program, several virtual meetings and interactions with 40 selected school heads of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) will be conducted by the integrated holistic health team. The program aims to educate students and teachers about the numerous benefits of yoga and how it can positively impact their mental health.

To ensure the success of the program, the school heads have been instructed to designate two teachers from their respective schools as instructors and demonstrators. These teachers will be provided with online training to enable them to effectively guide students in practicing yoga and meditation.

The launch of the ‘999 Challenge’ was announced by the director of education during the Integrated Holistic Health Summit held at the Amrita Hospitals convention center in Faridabad last week. The initiative is a part of the Delhi Government’s efforts to promote health and wellness among its citizens, and it follows the earlier free yoga classes initiative which was suspended due to differences between the Lieutenant Governor and the Delhi Government.
