Tanya Maniktala, the breakout star of Netflix’s critically acclaimed series “A Suitable Boy,” recently revealed that director Mira Nair had advised her to be selective about the roles she chooses post the success of the show.

Maniktala, who hails from Delhi, had an enriching experience working with Nair on the 2020 BBC adaptation of Vikram Seth’s novel of the same name. The series, set in post-Partition India, follows the story of a young woman named Lata, who is in search of a suitable boy for marriage.

In an interview with IANS, Maniktala shared that Nair had warned her about the offers that would come her way after the success of “A Suitable Boy” and advised her to choose good roles wisely. The actor added that Nair’s guidance has helped her navigate the industry in a better way.

Since the release of “A Suitable Boy,” Maniktala has been receiving numerous offers for roles in films and web series. However, the actor has been cautious about the projects she selects, focusing on roles that challenge her as an actor and allow her to explore her craft.

Maniktala’s performance in “A Suitable Boy” received widespread praise from critics and audiences alike, and her portrayal of Lata was widely regarded as one of the highlights of the show. Her nuanced and layered performance earned her a spot among the most promising actors of her generation.

In addition to her acting skills, Maniktala has also been lauded for her ability to connect with her audience, both on and off-screen. Her humility and grounded personality have made her a favorite among fans, and she has been using her newfound fame to bring attention to issues close to her heart, such as mental health and gender equality.
