Indian weightlifters Ajith Narayana and Achinta Sheuli made their country proud by finishing first and second respectively in Group B of the men’s 73kg event at the Asian Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Monday.

Competing in his first senior international tournament, Ajith Narayana lifted a total of 307kg (139kg+168kg), while Achinta Sheuli could only manage 305kg (140kg+165kg). Both lifters were assigned to Group B based on their entry weights. The lifters who registered the highest entry weight were placed in Group A, followed by B and so on.

His performance at the Asian Championships shows that he is a rising star in Indian weightlifting.

Achinta Sheuli, on the other hand, has been a consistent performer for India in weightlifting. He had won the gold medal in the men’s 73kg category at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships
