Speaking at a lecture organized by the Indian Army, the officer stated that China’s ambitions for regional and global dominance are driven by its internal dynamics and new-found status as a political, economic, technological, and military powerhouse. The officer’s comments come just days after India’s Army Chief made similar remarks about China’s transgressions across the Line of Actual Control.
However, the Army officer also stated that India’s transparent engagements and genuine outreach efforts have fared better, despite challenges posed by others’ predatory economic pursuits. India’s expanding sphere of influence is also recognized, with the officer stating that 2023 will be a crucial year for India in terms of global policymaking. India will have a significant role to play in finding practical and effective global solutions that benefit everyone, as it holds the presidency of G20.
The officer also highlighted the opportunity for India to strengthen relations with Russia and central Asian republics, which will create necessary counterbalances in the security canvas, as India holds the SCO presidency.
He added that India’s joint military training exercise and exchange programs will see an increase in scope and scale and that India’s commitment to achieving shared development goals in south Asia has grown significantly.
