Manisha Koirala, known for her roles in films such as “1942: A Love Story”, “Bombay”, and “Company”, defines success as having the luxury to say no. After almost two decades in the industry, Koirala says she has achieved this freedom and is hopeful that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming series “Heeramandi” will be another milestone in her career.

In a recent interview with PTI, Koirala said, “What I call success is the freedom to do what I want to do and at what time. I feel I am pretty successful today because I have the luxury to say no.” She credits her undying love for the profession for keeping her going, saying, “I love the field of acting and cinema.”

Koirala’s career took off in the 1990s with her breakthrough role in “1942: A Love Story”, which earned her critical acclaim and numerous awards. She went on to star in several successful films, including “Bombay” and “Company”. However, Koirala’s career was not without its ups and downs. She took a hiatus from acting in the early 2000s and returned to the industry in 2010 with the film “I Am”.

Now, Koirala is set to star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming series “Heeramandi”, which is based on the red-light district in pre-independence India. The series features an ensemble cast that includes Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and Manish Wadhwa. Koirala says she is excited to be a part of the project and hopes it will be another turning point in her career.

“I am very excited to be a part of ‘Heeramandi’ and I am looking forward to the shoot. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is an amazing filmmaker, and I have always admired his work. I am hopeful that this series will be another milestone in my career,” Koirala said.

Koirala has also been active on social media, where she often shares her thoughts on various topics, including mental health and women’s rights. She has been open about her battle with cancer and her journey towards recovery. In a recent post, she shared her thoughts on the importance of self-care, saying, “Self-care is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. We need to take care of ourselves first so we can take care of others.”
