According to police, the incident took place around 8:00 pm in Sunlight Colony. The accused allegedly arrived at his wife’s residence along with some family members. At that time, the woman, identified as Sangeeta Devi, was not at home.

Locals said the accused and his relatives began to leave when they spotted Sangeeta walking down the street toward her house. They reportedly stopped her, which led to an argument between the two sides.

Argument Turns Violent

Police said the verbal altercation quickly escalated. During the confrontation, Sangeeta allegedly tried to defend herself and stepped back. However, her husband allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired three shots at her.

Two bullets struck Sangeeta, causing critical injuries. She collapsed on the road as gunshots echoed through the neighbourhood. Hearing the commotion, neighbours rushed out of their homes. Meanwhile, the accused fled the scene.

Sangeeta’s father soon reached the spot. With the help of neighbours, he rushed her to a private hospital in Sector 31. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Divorce Dispute Under Investigation

Police confirmed that the couple’s divorce case was pending in court. Sangeeta had been living separately from her husband and in-laws for some time along with her two children. Officers said the couple had ongoing disputes, which may have led to the fatal incident.

The police later sent the body for post-mortem examination. Investigators are now examining all angles, including the alleged domestic dispute.

Inspector Satya Prakash, SHO of Palla police station, said authorities have registered a case of murder. He added that police teams are actively searching for the accused, who is reportedly a native of Bihar.

“A case of murder has been registered and teams have been formed to arrest the accused. Preliminary investigation suggests a dispute related to the pending divorce case. Further investigation is underway,” he said.

Manhunt Launched

Police have launched a manhunt to trace and arrest the accused. They are also questioning family members who accompanied him to the spot. Officials said they will gather forensic evidence and record witness statements to strengthen the case.

The incident has raised concerns about domestic violence and disputes turning fatal. Residents of the area expressed shock over the crime and demanded strict action against the accused.

As the investigation continues, police have assured that they will take swift steps to bring the accused to justice.
