US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, recently met Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan at his residence in Mumbai. During their conversation, they discussed India’s film industry and the global cultural impact of both Hollywood and Bollywood. Garcetti expressed his enthusiasm, tweeting, “Is it time for my Bollywood debut? Had a wonderful chat with superstar Shah Rukh Khan at his residence Mannat, learning more about the film industry in Mumbai and discussing the huge cultural impact of Hollywood and Bollywood across the globe.”

Garcetti’s visit to Mumbai followed his visit to the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where he paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and even spun the ‘charkha’ (spinning wheel) at the ashram. Speaking to reporters, Garcetti emphasized the strong economic ties and shared desire for a peaceful and prosperous Indo-Pacific region between India and the United States. He mentioned plans to deepen defense cooperation and collaborate in sectors such as space and technology.

Regarding student visas, Garcetti mentioned that the US Embassy in India would soon open applications for the next batch of student visas, aiming to surpass previous numbers and reduce visa issuance time. He expressed the President’s directive to streamline the process not only for students but also for first-time visitors.

Earlier, Garcetti had shared a video on Twitter, showcasing his visit to Maharashtra Bhawan in Delhi, expressing his eagerness to explore the diverse flavors of India and inviting suggestions for his next destination.

On May 11, Garcetti, along with envoys from Qatar and Monaco, presented their credentials to President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The meetings and engagements of Ambassador Garcetti reflect the ongoing efforts to strengthen ties and foster cultural exchanges between India and the United States.
