In a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress party has accused the ruling party of betraying its slogan of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ (Save Daughters, Educate Daughters), alleging that it now signifies ‘Beti BJP ke netaon se bachao’ (Save daughters from BJP leaders). The Congress also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not appealing to protesting wrestlers to refrain from throwing their medals into the Ganga.

The Congress’ criticism comes in the wake of a recent incident involving wrestlers protesting against the alleged inaction by Wrestling Federation of India chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been accused of sexually harassing female grapplers. Olympic medallists Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, and Asian Games gold medallist Vinesh Phogat had traveled to Haridwar on the banks of the Ganga, intending to discard their medals into the river as a form of protest.

However, their plan was halted by farmer leaders who intervened, urging the wrestlers to give them five days to address their grievances. While the wrestlers sought justice for the alleged misconduct, they were stopped from carrying out their symbolic act.

The Congress party seized upon the wrestlers’ protest as an opportunity to criticize the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The party argued that the BJP, which once championed the cause of empowering and protecting girls through the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign, is now failing to ensure the safety and dignity of women associated with its own party. The allegation that BJP leaders are involved in misconduct is a blow to their claim of upholding moral and ethical standards.

The Congress party also directed its ire at Prime Minister Modi for his silence on the matter. They questioned why the Prime Minister, who is known for his strong and influential speeches, did not make an appeal to the protesting wrestlers to reconsider their actions. According to the Congress, Modi’s silence indicates a lack of accountability and a failure to address critical issues affecting women.

The incident involving the wrestlers has brought to light the urgent need for the authorities to investigate the allegations against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and take appropriate action if he is found guilty. The Congress party has demanded a thorough inquiry into the matter to ensure justice for the female wrestlers who have come forward with accusations.

It is important for political leaders and institutions to maintain the highest standards of conduct, especially when they are responsible for shaping policies that impact the lives of citizens. The Congress party’s criticism of the BJP highlights the need for transparency and accountability in public life.

As the wrestlers’ protest gains attention, it serves as a reminder that the fight for gender equality and the eradication of sexual harassment is an ongoing battle that requires constant vigilance and action from all sections of society. The Congress party’s call to save daughters from BJP leaders emphasizes the importance of protecting women from any form of abuse or exploitation, irrespective of their political affiliations.

In the coming days, the spotlight will remain on the Wrestling Federation of India and the BJP MP in question. The manner in which this issue is handled will have far-reaching implications, not only for the individuals involved but also for the credibility and reputation of the political party they represent. The Congress party’s demand for justice and accountability resonates with the larger goal of creating a safe and equitable society for all.
