Indian PM Modi Assures Pacific Island Leaders of Development Initiatives and Support in Key Sectors

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) summit, expressed India’s willingness to share its capabilities with 14 Pacific Island countries. He announced new development initiatives in sectors such as healthcare, cyberspace, and small and medium enterprises, aiming to strengthen ties and promote collaboration between India and the Pacific nations.

In his concluding remarks at the FIPIC summit, Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s commitment to supporting the development of Pacific Island countries. He assured leaders from the region that India would readily share its expertise and capabilities with them without any hesitation.

One of the major announcements made by Prime Minister Modi was the establishment of a super-specialty cardiology hospital in Fiji. This initiative aims to provide advanced cardiac care to the people of Fiji and neighboring Pacific Island nations. The hospital will serve as a center of excellence, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and specialized medical professionals.

Furthermore, India pledged to assist in setting up dialysis units in all 14 Pacific island countries. This initiative aims to address the growing need for dialysis services and improve healthcare infrastructure in the region. By providing support and expertise in this crucial area, India aims to enhance the quality of healthcare available to the people of the Pacific islands.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of collaboration in the field of cyberspace. Acknowledging the rapid growth of digital technologies and their impact on societies, he expressed India’s readiness to assist Pacific Island countries in harnessing the potential of cyberspace for their development. Through knowledge-sharing, capacity-building programs, and technical assistance, India aims to empower these nations to leverage digital technologies effectively.

In addition to healthcare and cyberspace, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the significance of promoting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in driving economic growth and employment opportunities. India announced its intention to collaborate with Pacific Island countries in fostering entrepreneurship and supporting SME development. This initiative aims to provide training, mentorship, and access to resources for entrepreneurs in the region, enabling them to establish and grow their businesses.

The FIPIC summit provided a platform for dialogue and cooperation between India and Pacific Island countries, facilitating discussions on shared challenges and opportunities. Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s commitment to the principles of mutual respect, equality, and inclusivity in its engagement with the Pacific region. He emphasized the importance of sustainable development, climate action, and ocean conservation, highlighting India’s efforts in these areas and expressing India’s readiness to collaborate with Pacific Island nations on addressing these pressing global issues.

The announcements made by Prime Minister Modi at the FIPIC summit signify India’s proactive approach towards strengthening partnerships with Pacific Island countries. Through sharing its capabilities in sectors such as healthcare, cyberspace, and SME development, India aims to contribute to the socio-economic progress and well-being of the Pacific Island nations. The initiatives announced during the summit reflect India’s commitment to fostering cooperation, enhancing regional connectivity, and supporting the aspirations of the Pacific Island countries for a prosperous and sustainable future
