Rishi Sunak to Read from Colossians at King Charles III Coronation

Rishi Sunak, the current Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and the country’s first leader of Indian heritage, will be giving a reading from the biblical book of Colossians at the coronation of King Charles III. The ceremony is set to take place on May 6, 2023, at Westminster Abbey in London.

The decision to have a practicing Hindu read from a Christian text is in line with the multi-faith theme of the event. Lambeth Palace, the office of the Archbishop of Canterbury, has announced that members of other faith traditions will play an active role in the service for the first time.

The coronation liturgy will center around the theme of service to others and the loving rule of Christ over all people and all things. The chosen passage, Colossians 1:9-17, reflects this message.

Sunak’s participation in the event is significant not only because of his faith but also because he is a prominent political figure in the UK. As Prime Minister, he holds one of the highest positions of power in the country, and his involvement in the ceremony underscores the importance of the coronation.

The coronation of King Charles III will mark a significant moment in British history, as the country prepares for a new era of leadership. The event will be a time for reflection and renewal, as the people of the UK come together to celebrate their traditions and values.
