An explosion occurred on Monday morning near the Golden Temple in Punjab’s Amritsar, injuring one person and damaging the glass facades of nearby buildings. This was the second blast in the past three days as another explosion took place on Saturday, May 6. Police are still investigating the cause of the blasts.

According to the Press Trust of India (PTI), the explosion on Monday was heard within a one-kilometer radius of the Golden Temple. The forensic teams reached the spot and started their investigation into the matter.

The Amritsar Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mehtab Singh, told ANI that the situation is under control and that they are verifying the cause of the incident. Singh added that the anti-sabotage, bomb squad, and FSL teams were present at the site of the blast. One person received a minor injury in the leg and some nearby buildings had their glass facades damaged, as reported by ANI.

The police are investigating both blasts as being of low intensity. On Saturday, May 6, an explosion also occurred at the same Heritage Street near the Golden Temple, injuring one person, according to ANI.

The Amritsar police have urged citizens to maintain peace and harmony and to fact-check before sharing news on social media. They stated that an investigation is underway to establish the facts of the incidents and there is no need to panic.

A devotee, Karandeep Singh, who was present at the spot, stated that a few girls traveling in an auto-rickshaw were hit by shards of glass and sustained minor injuries after the explosion on Monday. “The girls had come from Haryana’s Panchkula to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple,” he said.

As of now, the cause of both blasts remains unknown, and police continue to investigate the incidents.
