Festival Celebrates Cultural Heritage

A vibrant Festival of Dance and Music commenced at the Government Dance College in Imphal. The event has drawn participation from artists, students, and cultural enthusiasts across the region.

The Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC), Kolkata, is organising the festival under the Ministry of Culture. In addition, the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur is supporting the programme.


Leaders Highlight Importance of Culture

Inaugurating the festival, Tongbram Robindro Singh described the event as a celebration that goes beyond performance. He emphasised that dance connects generations and expresses identity.

Moreover, he noted that young people are increasingly engaging with cultural arts. Therefore, such festivals play a key role in preserving traditions.

Commissioner H. Gyanprakash also addressed the gathering. He stated that the festival marks a revival of cultural activities after recent disruptions.


Performances and Workshops Add Value

The festival features daily performances by students as well as award-winning artists. Furthermore, organisers conducted workshops for around 50 participants before the event.

Guest of Honour Budha Chingtham highlighted the need to preserve regional heritage. He also pointed out that organising large-scale cultural events has been challenging in recent years.

However, he expressed optimism that such initiatives will reconnect people with traditional art forms.


Diverse Cultural Showcases

The festival presents a wide range of performances at the open stage, Laibung. These include folk music, Thang Ta, Kathak, and Bharatanatyam.

Additionally, the inaugural event featured performances such as Rhythms of Manipur, Koireng Tribe Dance, and Thang Ta. As a result, the venue witnessed a lively cultural atmosphere.


Aim to Strengthen Cultural Bonds

Organisers aim to strengthen cultural connections through this festival. At the same time, they seek to inspire greater appreciation for traditional art forms among the public.

Therefore, the event serves as a platform for both emerging and established artists to showcase their talent.
