Importance of science in modern development

The chief minister noted that science and technology influence almost every aspect of modern life. From healthcare to communication and infrastructure, scientific research drives innovation and progress.

According to Sarma, countries that invest in science education and research often lead global advancements in technology and economic development.

He said Assam must encourage more students to pursue science-related disciplines if the state wants to participate actively in this global transformation.

By focusing on science education, students can develop the skills needed to solve real-world challenges.

Sarma also pointed out that the growth of industries such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy has created new career opportunities for students trained in science and technology.

Encouraging students to pursue STEM careers

The chief minister urged students to consider careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). These fields offer opportunities to innovate and contribute to society.

He said that young people with strong scientific training can help address challenges in healthcare, climate change, agriculture, and infrastructure.

Sarma encouraged educational institutions to motivate students to take up science subjects from an early stage.

He added that curiosity and experimentation form the foundation of scientific thinking. Therefore, students should feel encouraged to ask questions and explore new ideas.

Teachers also play a key role in developing interest in science among students. Engaging classroom teaching and practical experiments can make science learning more enjoyable and meaningful.

Strengthening science education infrastructure

The Assam government has taken several steps to strengthen education infrastructure across the state. Authorities have focused on improving school facilities, laboratories, and teaching resources.

The chief minister said modern laboratories and better educational facilities can help students gain practical knowledge.

Hands-on learning allows students to understand scientific concepts more clearly.

The government has also worked to expand higher education opportunities in Assam. Several universities and research institutions now offer advanced courses in science and technology.

These institutions aim to provide students with opportunities to pursue research and innovation within the state.

Sarma noted that improved infrastructure can inspire students to pursue careers in science and research.

Role of teachers and institutions

Educational institutions and teachers play a crucial role in shaping students’ interest in science. The chief minister highlighted the importance of quality teaching and mentorship in encouraging young minds.

Teachers who inspire curiosity can influence students to pursue science careers. Demonstrations, experiments, and interactive learning methods help students understand scientific concepts better.

Sarma encouraged institutions to organize science exhibitions, competitions, and workshops. These activities provide platforms for students to showcase their ideas and innovations.

Participation in science fairs and research competitions can also build confidence among students.

Such initiatives help students develop creativity and analytical thinking.

Linking science education with national progress

The chief minister also connected the importance of science education with India’s broader development goals. He said that the country’s progress depends on the contributions of scientists, engineers, and researchers.

India has already made major achievements in fields such as space technology, medicine, and digital innovation.

Sarma said that young students from states like Assam must take part in these advancements.

By pursuing careers in science and technology, students can help strengthen India’s global standing in research and innovation.

He also highlighted the role of scientific research in solving social and environmental challenges.

Opportunities for students in Assam

Assam has witnessed improvements in education and research infrastructure in recent years. Universities and institutions now offer programs in emerging fields such as information technology, biotechnology, and environmental science.

The state government has also introduced scholarships and support programs for meritorious students.

These initiatives aim to help talented students pursue higher education without financial difficulties.

Sarma said that students should take advantage of these opportunities and explore scientific fields.

He encouraged young learners to remain dedicated to their studies and remain curious about the world around them.

Scientific learning, he said, can open doors to a wide range of careers.

Building a culture of innovation

The chief minister stressed that Assam must build a culture that values innovation and scientific thinking. Encouraging young people to explore science can help create new solutions for local challenges.

For example, research in agriculture can help improve crop productivity and support farmers. Environmental research can help protect biodiversity in the region.

Innovation in technology can also boost entrepreneurship and create new industries.

Sarma said the state government will continue supporting initiatives that promote scientific education and research.

Educational institutions, industry partners, and government agencies must work together to build a strong innovation ecosystem.

Inspiring the next generation of scientists

Assam’s focus on science education aims to inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators. Students who develop strong scientific foundations today can become future researchers, engineers, and entrepreneurs.

The chief minister urged students to remain curious and open to learning.

He said that science is not only about textbooks but also about understanding how the world works.

Young learners must explore new ideas and experiment with different approaches.

Such curiosity can lead to discoveries that benefit society.

A vision for the future

By encouraging greater interest in science education, the Assam government hopes to prepare students for the challenges of the future. Scientific knowledge and innovation will remain essential for economic development and technological progress.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s call for stronger engagement with science reflects the state’s ambition to create a knowledge-driven society.

Through improved infrastructure, supportive policies, and inspiring teaching, Assam aims to nurture a generation of students who can contribute to research, innovation, and national progress.

As students explore science and technology, they can help shape a future where knowledge and creativity drive sustainable development and growth for the state and the country.
