New CEO appointed for Sikkim

The Election Commission of India has named Raj Kumar Yadav as the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Sikkim. Officials issued the order with immediate effect.

Yadav belongs to the 2009 batch of the Indian Administrative Service. He will now lead the state’s election machinery.

Notification Issued from Nirvachan Sadan

The Commission released the official notification on March 30, 2026, from Nirvachan Sadan. Authorities issued the order under the Representation of the People Act, 1950.

Officials made the decision after consulting the state government. The move ensures coordination between central and state authorities.

Transition to Be Completed Within a Week

Raj Kumar Yadav will replace outgoing CEO Shri Prabhakar. The Commission has directed state officials to complete the transition process within one week.

Authorities expect a smooth handover of responsibilities. The timeline aims to avoid any disruption in election-related work.

Focus on Election Responsibilities

Yadav will work exclusively on election-related duties during his tenure. He will oversee voter management, polling arrangements, and election preparedness across Sikkim.

The order will appear in both the Gazette of India and the Sikkim State Gazette. This step formalises the appointment.

Appointment Ahead of Elections

The Commission has made the appointment ahead of upcoming electoral processes in the state. Officials believe the leadership change will strengthen election preparedness.

With this move, the Election Commission of India aims to ensure smooth, transparent, and efficient conduct of elections in Sikkim.
