Census 2027 Phase 1 Launched in Sikkim with Self-Enumeration Drive

Census 2027 Phase 1 Begins

The Government launched the first phase of Census 2027 in Sikkim on Wednesday. The programme took place at Samman Bhawan with senior officials and dignitaries in attendance.

Prem Singh Tamang attended the event and marked the official start of the census exercise in the state. The initiative forms part of a nationwide data collection drive.


Focus on Self-Enumeration

Karma R Bonpo, Director of the Directorate of Census Operations, explained the importance of the self-enumeration system. He said the government introduced this feature to make the process faster and more accurate.

Citizens can now submit their details through an online portal. This digital step aims to improve participation and reduce errors in data collection.

Officials stated that census data plays a key role in governance. Authorities use the information to design policies and implement welfare schemes.

Several senior officials attended the launch event. These included Annapurna Alley, Karma Namgyal Bhutia, and Tushar Nikhare.

Sisum Wangchuk Bhutia, SDM officials, and other census officers also joined the programme.

Officials urged citizens to cooperate with the census process. They highlighted that public participation is essential for accurate and reliable data.

Authorities believe the new digital approach will make the census more efficient and inclusive.
