CM KCR to launch second phase of Kanti Velugu on Jan 18

To work towards “Avoidable Blindness Free Telangana”, the Government has decided to take up universal eye screening by covering the entire population of the state under the name “Kanti Velugu” https://chfw.telangana.gov.in/homeTSACS.do.

About Kanti Velugu ProgramThe objectives of “Kanti Velugu” are

The objectives of “Kanti Velugu” are

(i) to conduct eye screening & vision tests for all citizens of the state
(ii) to provide spectacles free of cost
(iii) to provide medicines for common eye ailments (iv) educate people on prevention of serious disabling eye diseases.

The scheme which was launched on August 15 in 2018, was organized for five months to conduct eye screening tests covering the entire population of the State for Rs 106 crore.

The objective is to achieve an avoidable blindness-free Telangana by conducting eye screening tests and providing spectacles

and medicines apart from arranging surgeries and other treatments to the needy free of cost.

State health minister T Harish Rao said that all medical equipment such as reading glasses and medicines will reach the camp by Friday (January 19).

A fresh phase of the Kanti Velugu scheme, aimed to take up universal eye screening by covering the entire population of Telangana, will be resumed on January 18.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao directed officials to make necessary arrangements in this regard.

“Awareness campaigns on the need to attend eye screening camps must be taken up at the local level in a big way.

The first phase of Kanti Velugu was conducted in eight months but we intend to complete the second phase in 100 working days,” the state health minister said.


The second phase of Kanti Velugu in Khammam will be launched by chief minister K Chandrashekar Ro at 1 pm on January 18.

State health minister T Harish Rao on Thursday said the Rs 200 crore welfare scheme that includes eye

screening camps on a large level across the state will distribute 55 lakh free reading glasses and medicines for the beneficiaries.

It will reach the camp by Friday (January 19).
