India witnessed a positive development in its battle against COVID-19 as the country reported less than a thousand new cases on Monday. Alongside the new infections, 1,815 recoveries were recorded, resulting in an active caseload of 14,493, according to data from the Ministry of Health Affairs.

The death toll as of Sunday stood at 5,31,770, while active cases accounted for a mere 0.03% of total infections, reflecting a declining trend. The recovery rate remains high at 98.78%, with a significant number of 4,44,33,389 individuals having successfully recovered from the disease. The case fatality rate stood at 1.18%.

India continues its robust vaccination campaign, with approximately 220.66 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered across the country as per the ministry’s website. On Saturday, the country reported 1,223 new cases, leading to a decrease in active cases from 18,009 to 16,498.

In the national capital, Delhi, 26 fresh COVID-19 cases were recorded on Sunday, with a positivity rate of 1.49%, based on data shared by the city government’s health department. The total number of cases in Delhi has reached 20,40,447, while the death toll remains at 26,651.

Delhi witnessed a significant milestone earlier this year when the number of daily cases dropped to zero on January 16. However, the city experienced a surge in cases in the past month, prompting authorities to conduct mock drills in hospitals on April 11 to assess their readiness in handling potential surges.

India continues to remain vigilant and encourages vaccination and adherence to safety measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.
