Congress MLA DK Shivakumar, who was recently sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, has set the party’s sights on the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Addressing party cadres in Bengaluru, Shivakumar emphasized the need to fight well in the upcoming general elections to challenge the ruling BJP.

He highlighted the Congress’ strong performance in the Karnataka assembly polls, where they secured 135 seats, and urged party members to work towards victory in the Lok Sabha polls. Shivakumar expressed the party’s commitment to the welfare and development of the state, drawing inspiration from Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’.

He emphasized that the country is watching Karnataka and stated that the state will serve as the party’s gateway to the northern regions. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also criticized the BJP during the event and paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

The swearing-in ceremony, held on May 20 in Bengaluru, showcased opposition unity with the presence of leaders from various parties. Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi expressed gratitude to the people of Karnataka for electing the party to power, emphasizing that the mandate is for a pro-people’s government.
