India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is embarking on a six-day visit to Bangladesh, Sweden, and Belgium to enhance India’s engagement with the three nations under bilateral and multilateral frameworks.

The primary aim of the visit is to strengthen India’s ties with Bangladesh, with a focus on economic and connectivity cooperation, including the implementation of the third line of credit worth $4.5 billion. Additionally, discussions on border management, security, and people-to-people contacts will also take place.

In Sweden, Jaishankar will hold discussions with his Swedish counterpart Ann Linde on issues of mutual interest, including trade and investment, innovation, and climate change. He will also meet the leadership of the Swedish business community to discuss ways to deepen trade and investment ties between the two countries.

In Belgium, Jaishankar will attend the first ministerial meeting of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) along with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Railways and Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The TTC aims to enhance bilateral trade and investment between India and the European Union (EU) and explore opportunities for cooperation in technology and innovation.

The TTC ministerial meeting is scheduled to be held on May 16, and it is expected that the council will discuss issues such as trade, investment, intellectual property rights, and technology cooperation. This meeting will provide a platform for India and the EU to explore opportunities for cooperation and strengthen their economic partnership.

The visit of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to Bangladesh, Sweden, and Belgium is aimed at enhancing India’s engagement with these countries and strengthening its economic and strategic partnerships with them.
