Kangpokpi gun attack killed two Naga civilians and injured two others in Langka Naga village of Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Friday morning. Unidentified armed assailants opened fire in the village, leaving residents alarmed and raising fresh security concerns.
The incident took place at around 7:30 am, according to reports. The two injured civilians were taken to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal for treatment. Police have begun investigating the firing, while the identity and motive of the attackers remain unclear.

The deceased have been identified as Wiriliangbou Chawang and Kawidinang Abonmai, according to reports. The injured victims were identified as Namthiulungbou Prinmai and Maliangjinang Abonmai.
Medical information cited in reports said Prinmai suffered an injury to the groin. Abonmai sustained injuries to the chest and arm. Security personnel evacuated both injured civilians to RIMS after the shooting.
The Kangpokpi gun attack has renewed concerns about civilian safety in villages located in the district. However, authorities have not publicly established who carried out the firing.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. The inquiry is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and establish the identity of those responsible.

In another major case, six Naga civilians abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district were later found dead. The incident triggered strong reactions from Naga organisations and community groups.
The National Council of Churches in India said the six civilians were abducted on May 13 and that their remains were recovered on June 10.
Moreover, a joint operation involving the Manipur Police, National Investigation Agency and Central Reserve Police Force led to arrests in connection with the killings. The investigation remains part of wider efforts to establish accountability for violence against civilians.
Naga groups seek stronger protection
The Kangpokpi gun attack is also likely to increase pressure on authorities to strengthen protection for vulnerable villages. Civil society groups have repeatedly called for better security and accountability following attacks on civilians.
The latest shooting comes at a sensitive time. Naga organisations have already expressed concern over the safety of residents travelling through conflict-affected areas. Reports have also highlighted restrictions and insecurity along roads linking Naga-majority areas with Imphal and other parts of the state.
