FPAK Rejects Allegations Against Injured Footballer

The Football Players Association Kangpokpi (FPAK) has condemned what it called a fabricated campaign against footballer Paogoulal Chongloi.

In a statement issued on June 17, the association expressed strong concern over allegations that linked the injured athlete to militant activities. According to FPAK, such claims are false and unfair to a civilian who is currently recovering from serious injuries.

The association stated that Chongloi was among three civilians injured during the June 15 attack on Leilon Munlui village in Kangpokpi district.

Association Calls Allegations Defamatory

FPAK described the accusations as reckless, defamatory, and irresponsible. It argued that portraying an injured sportsman as a militant damages both his reputation and the principles of justice.

Furthermore, the association said the allegations amount to an attempt to criminalize an innocent victim at a time when his focus should remain on recovery and treatment.

According to the statement, spreading such narratives distracts attention from the actual violence that led to the injuries.

Highlighting the Footballer’s Career

The association highlighted Paogoulal Chongloi’s sporting achievements to counter the allegations.

According to FPAK, Chongloi began his football journey at Football for Change Academy. He later joined the youth development system of RoundGlass Punjab FC and subsequently trained at Minerva Football Academy.

After returning to Manipur, he continued his development with Sadar Hills Football Academy. His performances eventually earned him selection to the Under-18 squad of Mohun Bagan Super Giant.

The association further stated that the player remains under contract with the club until 2027.

Three Injured Civilians from Different Backgrounds

FPAK pointed out that the three injured individuals came from different civilian backgrounds.

The victims included a professional footballer, an internally displaced person, and a student. Therefore, the association questioned attempts to associate them with militant activities without evidence.

It argued that such allegations risk creating confusion and misinformation during an already sensitive situation.

Concerns Over Medical Treatment

The association also raised concerns regarding the treatment of the injured victims.

According to FPAK, there were attempts to disrupt emergency medical care at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal. Later, the injured individuals were shifted to Churachandpur for further treatment.

The association urged authorities to ensure that medical assistance remains free from interference, prejudice, and political influence.

Appeal for Justice and Protection of Civilians

FPAK called upon the government and security agencies to safeguard the rights and dignity of civilians affected by violence.

The association stressed that victims should receive protection, medical care, and fair treatment. It also urged authorities to prevent the spread of false narratives that could further harm injured civilians and their families.

Moreover, FPAK emphasized that justice should focus on identifying those responsible for acts of violence rather than targeting victims through misinformation.

Importance of the Location

Kangpokpi district is located in the conflict-affected state of Manipur in Northeast India. The region has witnessed ethnic tensions and security challenges in recent years. Therefore, ensuring accurate information, protecting civilians, and maintaining access to medical care remain crucial for peace and stability in the area.
