Manipur Observes Historic Kangla Attack Anniversary

Manipur solemnly observed the 135th anniversary of the Kangla Attack at Mapal Kangjeibung on Tuesday. The programme brought together citizens, leaders, and organisations to pay tribute to the martyrs and freedom fighters who played a crucial role in the historic event.

The Justice Committee on Anglo-Manipuri War Martyrs and Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak organised the event. It aimed to honour the sacrifices made during the conflict and to preserve the memory of those who fought for the state.

Chief Minister Highlights Historical Significance

Speaking at the gathering, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand described the Kangla Attack as a turning point in Manipur’s history. He noted that the event marked the loss of the state’s sovereignty during the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891.

Furthermore, he stressed that the occasion serves as a powerful reminder of the consequences of political disunity. According to him, internal conflicts and lack of cohesion can weaken a society and threaten its future.

Strong Message on Unity and Collective Responsibility

Khemchand emphasised the importance of unity and a shared vision for progress. He urged people to learn from history and avoid divisions that could harm the state’s stability.

Moreover, he called on citizens to honour the sacrifices of their forebears not just through remembrance, but through action. He encouraged everyone to work towards building a peaceful and stronger Manipur.

Tribute to Martyrs and Freedom Fighters

The commemoration event paid heartfelt tribute to the martyrs and freedom fighters of Kangleipak. Attendees reflected on their courage and dedication, which continue to inspire future generations.

In addition, the programme reinforced the importance of preserving historical memory. Organisers highlighted that such events help instil a sense of responsibility and pride among the people.

Renewed Commitment to Peace and Progress

The ceremony concluded with a renewed call for unity, peace, and development in Manipur. Leaders and participants alike reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the state’s future.

Therefore, the 135th Kangla Attack commemoration not only honoured the past but also encouraged collective efforts toward a more united and resilient society.
