Manipur: Security Forces Arrest KCP Cadre, Seize Huge Cache of Arms and Explosives in Kakching

Security forces in Manipur arrested an active cadre of the banned militant outfit Kangleipak Communist Party [KCP (Taibanganba)] during a security operation in Kakching district on May 11, 2026. Police identified the arrested militant as Leishangthem Ibungo Singh, a 50-year-old resident of Irengband Hawairou Awang Leikai. During the operation, security personnel seized a large cache of arms, explosives, ammunition, and other materials from his possession.

Security Forces Conduct Operation in Kakching

Security forces carried out the operation in the Irengband Hawairou Mayai Leikai area under Kakching Police Station in Manipur.

During the operation, personnel arrested Leishangthem Ibungo Singh, who allegedly worked as an active cadre of the militant outfit KCP (Taibanganba).

Police officials said the operation formed part of intensified security measures against insurgent activities in the state.

Huge Cache of Arms and Ammunition Recovered

During the search operation, security personnel recovered four firearms, including automatic rifles.

Authorities also seized 36 empty magazines linked to different weapons. In addition, the team recovered explosives and a large quantity of ammunition from the militant’s possession.

The recovered explosive materials included one 51 HE bomb, two para bombs, 11 detonators, and four lathode shells.

Furthermore, security personnel seized 1,993 live rounds of ammunition of various calibres.

Police also recovered one mobile phone during the operation.

Security Agencies Continue Crackdown on Militancy

Officials stated that security agencies continue to launch operations across Manipur to curb militant activities and maintain law and order.

The seizure of explosives and ammunition highlights ongoing concerns regarding insurgent networks operating in some parts of the state.

Authorities are expected to continue investigations to determine possible links, supply routes, and operational activities connected to the recovered arms and explosives.
