Man Found Dead in Imphal East
Local commuters noticed the man’s body on the roadside early Friday morning. They informed the police, and officers from Lamlai Police Station quickly arrived at the location.
Police recovered the body and took it to the JNIMS Hospital mortuary. Authorities will now work to identify the deceased and complete the required procedures.

Violence Reported in Kangpokpi
The Imphal East incident comes as Kangpokpi district faces fresh reports of violence.
On September 2, unidentified miscreants allegedly set at least 25 houses on fire in Tiporam village under Chalwa Police Station. The attack reportedly followed the burning of 10 houses in nearby Liangmai Naga villages on September 1.
The affected villages include Tapon Khullen, Tapon Khunou and Makui Tiporam. During the attacks, residents also reported gunfire. A village church pastor reportedly suffered bullet injuries.
Furthermore, a Tiporam resident claimed that armed men had threatened to burn additional houses. According to the resident, the attackers later set another 25 houses on fire on September 2. Five of those houses reportedly belonged to members of the Nepali community.
Villagers Seek Shelter
Residents said authorities had earlier evacuated villagers from Tiporam to Makui after violence erupted in the area. However, some villagers returned home after the situation appeared to improve.
According to residents, armed attackers later opened fire on the returning villagers. As a result, they fled again and sought shelter at a relief centre in Makui.
The two villages stand about 15 kilometres apart. Residents also alleged that security forces received information about the house burnings but did not take action until September 2.
Tensions Continue in Manipur
The latest incidents have increased tensions between communities in parts of Manipur. Reports indicate that 17 people from the Kuki-Zo and Naga communities have died in separate incidents since May 13.
Earlier, an August 27 ambush reportedly killed four Naga civilians. Similarly, an August 31 attack along the Imphal–Tamenglong road reportedly killed three Kuki civilians in Kangpokpi and Tamenglong districts.
However, no group has officially claimed responsibility for the reported attacks. Police and security agencies continue to investigate the incidents.
