In a recent statement, Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for blaming Muslims for the rise in prices, highlighting it as a clear indication of the BJP-led government’s failure to address key issues such as unemployment and inflation. Mufti further called for the judiciary to take suo-motu notice of Sarma’s remarks, drawing a parallel with their action against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for raising questions on corruption.

Mufti condemned the Assam CM’s comments, stating that they exemplify the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) inability to effectively tackle the challenges faced by the country. By shifting the blame onto Muslims, Sarma attempts to divert attention from the government’s failure to control unemployment, inflation, and overall lack of development. Mufti emphasized that such tactics not only undermine the social fabric of the nation but also incite communal tensions.

Furthermore, Mufti raised concerns about the selective actions taken by the judiciary, pointing out the contrasting responses to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks and Sarma’s comments. She highlighted that while Gandhi faced legal consequences for questioning corruption, Sarma’s divisive statements warrant similar attention from the judiciary. Mufti called for consistency in the application of the law, urging the judiciary to take suo-motu notice of Sarma’s remarks and address them appropriately.

The PDP president underscored the dangerous implications of Sarma’s remarks, as they target the livelihoods of specific communities. By urging Hindus to forcefully seize the meager means of income of Muslim vendors and local grocery stores, Sarma not only perpetuates discrimination but also endorses actions that can potentially disrupt communal harmony. Mufti argued that such divisive rhetoric further widens the social and economic disparities in society.

Mehbooba Mufti strongly criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for blaming Muslims for the rising prices in the state. She highlighted that Sarma’s remarks reflect the failure of the BJP-led government to address key issues such as unemployment, inflation, and development. Mufti called for the judiciary to take suo-motu notice of Sarma’s divisive comments and emphasized the need for consistent action in upholding the rule of law. She underscored the dangers of such rhetoric, which not only perpetuates discrimination but also threatens communal harmony and exacerbates social and economic disparities.
