Mizoram: 21-Year-Old Differently-Abled Woman Dies in Khawhai House Fire

A 21-year-old differently-abled woman died after a house caught fire in Khawzawl district of Mizoram on Tuesday, September 1. Officials identified the deceased as Lalhriatzuali from Khawhai village. She was reportedly the only person inside the house when the fire started around 1 pm. Nearby residents noticed the flames and rushed to the spot to control the fire. However, Lalhriatzuali could not escape and died inside the house.

Woman Dies in House Fire

The fire broke out at a house owned by Ngurkhuma in Khawhai village. Four members of the family lived in the house.

At the time of the incident, Lalhriatzuali was reportedly the only person inside. Officials said she was on a bed and could not escape when the flames spread.

People staying at a nearby sub-centre noticed the fire. They immediately rushed to the house and tried to control the flames.

Their efforts brought the fire under control before it completely destroyed the house. However, rescuers could not save Lalhriatzuali.

Cause of Fire Under Investigation

Officials have not yet determined what caused the fire. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident and establish how the blaze started.

The death of the young woman has caused grief in Khawhai village. Local authorities are also assessing the impact of the fire on the affected family.

CM Announces ₹4 Lakh Assistance

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma expressed deep grief over Lalhriatzuali’s death.

He announced ₹4 lakh in ex-gratia assistance for the bereaved family under State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) norms.

The Chief Minister also offered condolences to the family. He said the government would consider any additional assistance allowed under SDRF guidelines.
