Election Commission Approves NDPP-NPF Merger

Neiphiu Rio welcomed the Election Commission of India’s formal approval of the merger between the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party and the Naga People’s Front.

Speaking at a ticket distribution programme for Town Council by-elections, Rio called the merger a historic political development for Nagaland.

He said the unified party would enter a “golden period” and urged party workers to dedicate themselves to serving the Naga people with sincerity and discipline.

NDPP Officially Ceases to Exist

The Election Commission formally recognised the merger earlier this month. Following the approval, the NDPP officially ceased to exist as a separate political party.

The NDPP, which had 32 members, merged with the NPF, which previously had two MLAs, in October last year.

The merger has now consolidated the NPF into a single regional political entity in Nagaland.

Rio Calls NPF His Original Political Home

During his address, Rio expressed happiness about returning to what he described as his original political home.

He said he felt comfortable returning to the Naga People’s Front and described the party as a guardian of Naga rights, dignity, and identity.

Rio reminded party leaders that the NPF was established to protect the interests and identity of the Naga people.

He also encouraged party members to study the organisation’s aims and objectives carefully and place public interest above personal ambitions.

Appeal for Unity and Public Welfare

The Chief Minister stressed that party workers and elected representatives should remain united and disciplined.

He said the NPF Constitution binds every member to work honestly for the welfare of the people and the protection of Naga interests.

Rio also advised municipal councillors to follow party guidelines strictly and avoid misunderstandings within the organisation.

According to him, unity within the party is necessary for stable governance and better public service in Nagaland.

Party Leaders Confirm Completion of Merger Formalities

Achumbemü Kikün confirmed that all official procedures related to the merger have been completed.

He said the party completed the process after receiving communication from the Election Commission of India.

Party leaders described the merger as an important development for regional politics in Nagaland.

Candidates Introduced for Urban Local Body By-Elections

During the programme, the party formally introduced three candidates for the upcoming Urban Local Body by-elections.

The candidates are:

  • Neichüu Kuotsü for Chümoukedima Town Ward No. 11
  • Shikavi Kiba for Atoizu Town Ward No. 9
  • Aling Lotha for Wokha Town Ward No. 8

Pusazo Luruo administered the oath to the candidates during the ceremony.

Party leaders expressed confidence that the candidates would work for public welfare and strengthen local governance.
