Governor Calls Census 2027 a Foundation for Development

Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav has urged people across the state to participate actively in Census 2027, describing the national exercise as essential for future development and governance.

Launching the initiative at Lok Bhavan, the Governor said Nagaland has joined the rest of India in undertaking one of the country’s most important statistical exercises. According to him, the census will provide vital information that policymakers can use to improve public services and development programmes.

The campaign carries the theme “My Census, My Development,” emphasizing the direct connection between accurate population data and effective governance. The Governor stated that every citizen’s participation would contribute to better planning and resource allocation.

Self-Enumeration Introduced for the First Time

A major feature of Census 2027 is the introduction of self-enumeration. For the first time, households can register and submit their information online without waiting for field officials to visit their homes.

The self-enumeration process began on June 16 and will continue until June 30. Authorities believe the digital system will make the census more transparent, efficient, and inclusive.

Governor Yadav personally participated in the self-enumeration process and encouraged citizens to take advantage of the new facility. He said the initiative reflects the government’s efforts to modernize data collection and improve public participation.

Furthermore, the online system is expected to reduce errors and speed up the compilation of census data, making the process more effective.

Accurate Data Key to Better Governance

The Governor emphasized that census data serves as the backbone of government planning. He explained that authorities use census information to design policies and allocate resources across multiple sectors.

According to him, accurate population figures help governments improve educational facilities, healthcare services, infrastructure projects, and social welfare programmes.

He noted that reliable data ensures government schemes reach intended beneficiaries and helps authorities identify areas that require additional support and investment.

Moreover, as India moves toward the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, comprehensive census data will play a critical role in long-term national and state-level development planning.

Over 6,100 Officials Deployed Across Nagaland

To ensure smooth implementation of the census process, authorities have deployed more than 6,100 census officials across Nagaland.

Governor Yadav praised the dedication of the officials involved in the exercise and acknowledged their role in ensuring accurate data collection throughout the state.

At the same time, he appealed to tribal bodies, village councils, community organizations, and community elders to cooperate fully with census teams.

He stressed that Census 2027 is not merely a population count but an important exercise that will influence development policies and governance decisions for years to come.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio Encourages Public Participation

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio also called upon citizens to participate actively in the self-enumeration process.

In a message shared on social media platform X, Rio highlighted the importance of accurate census data for informed planning and effective governance.

He encouraged residents not only to complete their own enumeration but also to motivate family members, friends, and neighbors to participate.

According to the Chief Minister, reliable demographic information will help governments formulate better policies and deliver improved outcomes for future generations.

The first phase of Census 2027, known as the House Listing Operation, commenced on June 16.
