Opposition parties protest in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha on Monday, leading to the adjournment of proceedings for the day. The cause of the commotion was the demand for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into allegations against Gautam Adani’s business group.

The Rajya Sabha session was adjourned within a few minutes of starting due to continuous sloganeering by the Opposition. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar adjourned the House till 2 pm, hoping for discussions instead of disruptions.

However, when the House reconvened, the Opposition members kept raising slogans, leading to another adjournment for the day after the Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2023 was passed without discussion.

The Lok Sabha also witnessed disruptions over the same issue, and the House adjourned for a few hours as a mark of respect for a sitting member who had passed away. Previously, the House used to adjourn for the day after paying tribute to the member.

Since the second part of Parliament’s Budget Session began on March 13, the Lok Sabha has been experiencing daily disruptions due to the demand for a JPC probe into the Adani dealings.
