Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Brazilian President Inacio Lula da Silva in Hiroshima, Japan, during the G7 summit. They had a productive discussion on strengthening their strategic partnership in areas like defense, trade, and renewable energy. They also shared their views on regional developments and working together in international forums.

This was their first meeting, and both leaders expressed their commitment to deepening trade ties and expanding cooperation in sectors such as agriculture and defense. They highlighted the importance of organizing a high-level business meeting and looked forward to President Lula’s visit to India for the G-20 Summit. Earlier, PM Modi also had a fruitful bilateral meeting with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to enhance collaboration in trade, innovation, and science. PM Modi visited the Peace Memorial Museum and paid tribute to the victims of Hiroshima at the Peace Memorial Park.

According to the ministry, they assessed their Strategic Partnership and explored avenues to enhance it, particularly in areas such as defense production, trade, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, dairy, and animal husbandry, as well as biofuels and clean energy.

Both leaders highlighted the importance of arranging a high-level meeting between business leaders from both countries in the future. After exchanging perspectives on regional developments, both leaders emphasized the significance of ongoing cooperation in multilateral forums and the longstanding necessity for reforming multilateral institutions. The statement mentioned that PM Modi eagerly anticipates President Lula’s visit to India for the G-20 Summit in September this year.
