Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the grand celebrations for National Unity Day 2025 on October 31. The day marks the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister. Known as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, the day celebrates Patel’s crucial role in unifying over 560 princely states to form a united India. This year’s occasion will be one of the largest commemorations since the event’s inception in 2014.

PM Modi to Lead Celebrations at Statue of Unity

The central celebration will take place at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat. PM Modi will offer floral tributes to Sardar Patel and participate in the Run for Unity. Thousands of citizens, government officials, and students will join the run to express solidarity.

Following the event, Modi will deliver a speech highlighting Patel’s role in shaping India’s unity and strength. He is also expected to unveil new development projects in Kevadia to promote tourism and infrastructure growth in the region.

The Statue of Unity, which stands 182 meters tall, will serve as the focal point of the celebration. The government plans to organize a laser show narrating Patel’s life, struggles, and achievements. Officials expect the show to attract thousands of visitors.

Nationwide Events to Mark Patel’s 150th Birth Anniversary

The 2025 celebration will extend beyond Gujarat. All states and union territories will hold unity events, including marches, exhibitions, and cultural programs. Governors and chief ministers will lead public gatherings emphasizing Patel’s message of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” (One India, Great India).

The Ministry of Culture has announced special funding for the occasion. Ministries of Home Affairs, Defence, and Education will organize joint events across India. The Home Ministry has instructed all offices, schools, and colleges to administer the “National Unity Pledge” on October 31.

Schools and universities will host essay competitions, debates, and screenings of documentaries about Patel’s life. The Education Ministry has asked institutions to focus on his leadership and vision of a strong, united nation.

Unity Events in Northeastern and Northern States

In the northeastern region, states like Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Manipur will organize unity runs and parades. These events will focus on promoting integration and harmony among diverse communities. Assam will hold a special unity run in Guwahati, while Arunachal Pradesh will host a parade at Itanagar.

In Delhi, the national capital, a grand unity parade will take place at India Gate. Armed forces and paramilitary contingents will march alongside youth volunteers. The parade will be followed by a musical tribute to Sardar Patel featuring patriotic performances.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will telecast the celebrations live on Doordarshan and All India Radio. Special documentaries on Patel’s leadership and his unification efforts will air throughout the day.

Special Initiatives for National Unity Day 2025

The government has introduced several initiatives for this year’s milestone celebration. Indian Railways will run a “Unity Express” train connecting Kevadia to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. The train symbolizes Patel’s vision of connecting people across regions.

Public sector organizations and private firms have been encouraged to organize community drives and social projects under the theme of unity. CSR programs focusing on education, rural welfare, and self-reliance will align with Patel’s ideals.

States such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh have announced scholarships named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. These scholarships will recognize students who promote social harmony and leadership in their communities.

International Participation and Diaspora Events

The Indian diaspora will also join the celebration. Indian embassies and consulates abroad will host cultural evenings and seminars on Patel’s role in building modern India. The Ministry of External Affairs has asked missions worldwide to organize unity events in collaboration with local Indian communities.

In the United States, the Indian Embassy in Washington DC will host a special exhibition titled “Patel: The Architect of United India.” Similar events will take place in London, Singapore, and Sydney.

Security and Visitor Management

Ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit, Gujarat Police and central security forces have strengthened arrangements in Kevadia. Over 5,000 security personnel will be deployed to manage the crowd and ensure smooth conduct of the event. Surveillance systems and traffic control measures have also been enhanced to handle the large number of visitors.

Special transportation arrangements will help tourists reach the venue easily. The Gujarat government has introduced additional buses and trains to Kevadia during the celebration week. Hotels and local businesses have been asked to prepare for an influx of tourists.

Honoring Patel’s Vision for a United India

PM Modi has often praised Sardar Patel as the “Iron Man of India.” He has said that Patel’s determination and foresight helped India emerge as a single, strong nation after independence.

During the 2025 celebrations, Modi is expected to highlight Patel’s timeless message that unity is India’s greatest strength. He will also urge citizens to work collectively for national progress and social harmony.

Patel’s legacy continues to inspire generations, reminding Indians of the importance of standing together despite cultural and regional differences. National Unity Day 2025 will serve as a reminder that the dream of a united India lives on through collective effort and shared pride.

A Day of Unity and Commitment

As India celebrates Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary, National Unity Day 2025 will stand as a tribute to his extraordinary leadership. The nationwide participation—from schools to the diaspora—reflects the spirit of unity that Patel envisioned.

Through these events, India aims to reaffirm its strength in diversity and dedication to national integrity. As PM Modi leads the celebrations, the nation will once again echo Patel’s message: unity is not just an idea, but the foundation of India’s identity.
