Rina Begum, a woman from Guwahati’s Satgaon area, has died days after she was allegedly assaulted by her son-in-law and members of his family during a domestic dispute in Azara.
The incident took place in the Lower Mirzapur area of Azara after Begum reportedly went to her daughter’s home on August 25. She had learned about a dispute involving her daughter and son-in-law and had gone there to check on the situation.
Rina Begum attacked after visiting daughter
According to reports, Begum was allegedly attacked after reaching the residence of her daughter. Her son-in-law, identified as Faruk Ali, and three other members or associates of his family have been accused of assaulting her.
The allegations have not been established in court. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the assault and the events that followed.
Begum reportedly suffered serious injuries during the alleged attack. She was subsequently taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati for treatment as her condition was considered critical.
Woman dies during treatment at GMCH
Rina Begum remained under medical treatment for nearly two weeks after the alleged assault. Despite receiving care, her condition did not improve sufficiently, and she died on Sunday night, according to reports.
Different reports have described the injuries differently, including serious fractures and injuries to her body. However, the exact medical findings and the precise cause of death are expected to form part of the investigation.
The death has added a serious dimension to the case, which initially involved an alleged assault linked to a family dispute.
Investigation follows Rina Begum’s death
Following her death, a case was registered at Azara Police Station in connection with the alleged assault and subsequent death. Police are examining the circumstances of the incident and the sequence of events leading to Begum’s death.
As of the latest reports, no arrests had been reported in connection with the case. Therefore, the allegations against Faruk Ali and the other accused remain subject to police investigation.
Family seeks justice in Guwahati case
Begum’s death has prompted her family to seek action against those allegedly involved in the assault. Her husband, Sahid Ali, has appealed to the authorities for justice and called for strict action against anyone found responsible.
The family’s allegations will now be examined alongside the available evidence, witness accounts and medical findings. Police will also have to establish what happened at the Lower Mirzapur residence on August 25 and whether the alleged assault directly led to Begum’s death.
The case has drawn attention to the consequences that domestic disputes can have beyond the immediate family members involved. However, investigators will need to establish the facts through the ongoing probe rather than relying on allegations alone.
Police probe to establish circumstances
The investigation into Rina Begum’s death is expected to focus on the alleged assault, the injuries she sustained and the period between the incident and her death.
Meanwhile, authorities will have to determine the roles, if any, of the people named by the family. Medical records and other evidence may also help investigators establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
Overall, the case remains under investigation. Until the police inquiry is completed and any charges are tested through due legal process, the allegations against the accused should not be treated as proven facts.
