Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has stated that he will cooperate with the Delhi Police’s investigation after an FIR was filed against him for sexual harassment.

The Solicitor General of India, Tushar Mehta, informed the Supreme Court that an FIR would be filed against Singh, which he welcomed, adding that he would follow the law and cooperate wherever necessary. However, Olympic medallist Bajrang Punia, protesting against Singh over sexual harassment charges, stated that the wrestlers’ protest would continue until Singh is sent to jail.

The Delhi Police have confirmed that they will register an FIR against the WFI chief over the sexual harassment charges. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta updated the top court that the Delhi Police will register FIR by the evening. The wrestlers who have been protesting against Singh over the charges expressed their appreciation for the Supreme Court’s decision to direct the police to file a case but noted that their protest would continue.

The Supreme Court had previously issued notices to the Delhi Police and others after hearing a plea by seven women wrestlers seeking registration of an FIR against Singh. The wrestlers, who do not trust the Delhi Police, fear that the FIR may be loose and that Singh may attempt to influence the investigation. Vinesh Phogat, one of the protesting wrestlers, has called for Singh to be behind bars and removed from all posts he holds.
