An Indian woman from Punjab, who was allegedly trafficked to Oman in December 2022, is all set to return to India. Swaranjit Kaur had moved to the Gulf nation in search of a better-paying job but eventually found herself trapped by a travel agent who allegedly trafficked her. An Air India flight ticket was booked in Kaur’s name for Monday night from Muscat and her flight departed at 10.25 pm on Monday from Muscat, scheduled to arrive at Delhi airport at 3.15 am on Tuesday.

The matter was taken up by the Indian Embassy in Muscat after Kaur’s husband, Kuldeep Singh, approached representatives of RS member Seechewal. Seechewal had arranged for Kaur’s ticket after having a proper telephonic conversation with the Indian Embassy staff in Muscat. Kaur had missed her flight due to the unprofessional attitude of some staff members at the Indian Embassy in Oman. Seechewal then brought the matter to the notice of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and sought its intervention to evacuate Kaur from Oman.

In a letter to the MEA, Seechewal mentioned every detail of the entire episode along with proofs. Kaur’s husband had informed Seechewal that an agent named Arman had received her in Oman and, instead of giving her the promised household work, had tried to sell/traffic her on various occasions. There were many other women detained by the agent for sexual exploitation, according to the allegations of Kuldeep Singh.

Seechewal said that they had wanted to solve the matter on their own, but when the staff of the Indian Embassy behaved unprofessionally, they had to write to the MEA to locate the woman and help in her evacuation.
