In an inspiring comeback bid, promising athlete Priya Habbathanahalli Mohan is determined to regain her status as the fastest quarter-miler in the country. Overcoming a hamstring injury, the talented young runner has set her sights on winning a medal at the upcoming Asian Games, under the guidance of her new coach, Anier Garcia from Cuba.

At the age of 18, Priya emerged as the fastest women’s 400m runner in 2021, setting an impressive time of 52.77 seconds at the junior level. However, despite her early success, she faced setbacks in subsequent years, failing to secure individual medals in two world U-20 championships. Recognizing the need for a fresh start, Priya made the difficult decision to part ways with her long-time coach, Arjun Ajay, who had discovered her talent during a national schools meet in 2018.

Priya’s journey to reclaim her glory took a significant turn as she joined the Inspire Institute of Sport in Bellary, Karnataka. It was here that she found her new mentor in Anier Garcia, a renowned Cuban athlete and the 2000 Olympic 110m hurdles champion. With his expertise and guidance, Priya hopes to not only regain her previous form but also surpass her past achievements.

Under the watchful eye of Coach Garcia, Priya has been diligently working on her physical conditioning and technical skills. The Cuban coach brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to her training regimen, helping her refine her technique and enhance her performance on the track. With a renewed focus and unwavering determination, Priya is leaving no stone unturned in her pursuit of excellence.

The Asian Games, known for showcasing the best sporting talent from across the continent, will serve as the ultimate testing ground for Priya’s comeback. The competition will not only test her physical capabilities but also her mental resilience. Priya’s ambition to secure a medal in the women’s 400m event is a testament to her unwavering spirit and her commitment to realizing her potential as an athlete.

As she steps onto the track, Priya carries with her the hopes and aspirations of a nation eager to witness her resurgence. Her journey serves as an inspiration to young athletes who face challenges and setbacks along their path to success. With her talent, determination, and the support of her new coach, Priya Habbathanahalli Mohan has the potential to once again make a significant impact on the Indian athletics scene and etch her name as the fastest quarter-miler in the country.
