India’s Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, Meenakshi Lekhi, emphasized the vital role of culture within the BRICS bloc, stressing the deep-rooted connections between the five member countries based on shared values. Lekhi’s statements came during the 8th BRICS Culture Ministers’ Meeting, which took place in the scenic Mpumalanga province of South Africa, just ahead of the highly anticipated BRICS Summit scheduled in Johannesburg the following month.

Addressing the gathering of culture ministers from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, Minister Lekhi highlighted the importance of culture as a unifying force that binds the BRICS nations together. Drawing attention to the rich and diverse cultural heritage of each country, she underscored how these shared values have fostered a strong sense of solidarity and camaraderie among the bloc’s members.

The BRICS bloc, comprising some of the world’s major emerging economies, has long recognized the significance of culture in promoting understanding, mutual respect, and cooperation among its members. By leveraging their common cultural foundations, the BRICS countries have sought to deepen their diplomatic and economic ties, transcending mere trade and investment relations.

During the meeting in Mpumalanga, Minister Lekhi actively engaged with her counterparts from Brazil, Russia, China, and South Africa, aiming to foster a comprehensive cultural exchange program. By signing the Declaration of the 8th Culture Ministers’ Meeting, the representatives committed to strengthening and diversifying cultural interactions within the BRICS framework.

The declaration is set to pave the way for robust cultural exchanges, spanning various artistic and intellectual domains, such as literature, art, music, cinema, and heritage preservation. By encouraging artists, scholars, and cultural enthusiasts to engage in cross-border collaborations, the BRICS bloc seeks to enhance intercultural understanding and showcase the richness of their collective heritage to the world.

Minister Lekhi’s presence at the meeting further emphasized India’s dedication to nurturing cultural ties within the BRICS alliance. As a country renowned for its ancient civilization and vibrant cultural tapestry, India has been at the forefront of promoting cultural cooperation and mutual appreciation among its fellow BRICS members.

The upcoming BRICS Summit in Johannesburg promises to provide a platform for these member states to reinforce their shared commitment to cultural integration and sustainable development. It will also offer an opportunity to showcase the multifaceted talents and achievements of their people on the global stage.

Beyond cultural diplomacy, the BRICS bloc continues to focus on economic collaboration, promoting inclusive growth, and addressing shared challenges on the international stage. By aligning their efforts, these nations have sought to amplify their voices in global governance and contribute to shaping a more equitable and balanced world order.

While each BRICS country brings its distinct historical and cultural legacy, their unity lies in their aspirations for progress and prosperity. By cherishing their cultural bonds, these emerging economies reinforce the principles of mutual respect and cooperation, setting an example for the world on how cultural understanding can serve as a driving force for international harmony and development.

As the BRICS leaders prepare to gather in Johannesburg for the upcoming summit, they carry with them the collective resolve to build on their cultural connections and collaborate on solutions that can address global challenges effectively. By embracing their shared values and aspirations, the BRICS bloc continues to cement its position as a formidable force for positive change in the contemporary world.
