False Claims of Airstrike on Srinagar Airbase

A viral video circulating on social media, especially from several pro-Pakistan accounts, falsely claims that the Pakistan Air Force has launched an airstrike on the Srinagar Airbase in Jammu & Kashmir. The claim has caused confusion and concern among netizens.

However, the Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit (PIB Fact Check) has swiftly debunked the video and the accompanying narrative. In its official clarification, PIB stated that the footage is not from India and has no connection with any airstrike on Srinagar.

🔍 #PIBFactCheck Findings:

  • ❌ The viral video is old and not from India.
  • ✅ The video actually shows sectarian clashes from 2024 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

The government has urged citizens to remain cautious about such misinformation and to refrain from sharing unverified content on social media platforms. Spreading such false narratives can create unnecessary panic and pose a threat to national security.

PIB also reminded the public to trust only official government sources for any information related to national defense and security.

“Always rely on verified sources. Do not forward or believe in unverified claims, especially on sensitive issues,” PIB stated.

This incident once again highlights the increasing need for digital vigilance and responsible social media use, especially in times when misinformation can spread rapidly.
