India has launched a precision military operation named Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The strikes come in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 people, including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen.
According to a statement from the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the Indian Army conducted strikes on nine separate locations believed to be linked to terror outfits operating from across the border. The statement emphasized that the action was “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” and clarified that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted.
“India has demonstrated considerable restraint in the selection of targets and the method of execution. Our actions have been designed to minimize collateral damage while ensuring those responsible for planning terror attacks on Indian soil are held accountable,” the PIB stated.
Explosions were reported from multiple locations across Pakistan and PoJK late Sunday night, sparking widespread speculation until official confirmation arrived. Pakistan’s military later confirmed that three locations had been hit — two in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and one in Bahawalpur, a major city in the Punjab province near the Indian border.
India’s decision to launch Operation Sindoor follows growing public outrage and demands for justice after the Pahalgam attack. The government has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism, affirming that those responsible for orchestrating and supporting cross-border attacks will face consequences.
“We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable. There will be a detailed briefing on Operation Sindoor later today,” the PIB added.
Defense analysts have noted that this operation marks a continuation of India’s strategy of surgical and precision strikes against terror camps across the Line of Control, following similar actions in the past, including the 2016 Uri and 2019 Balakot strikes.
As of now, there are no reports of civilian casualties. The Indian government is expected to provide more information on the nature of the targets and the outcomes of the operation in an official briefing later today.
