Box Office Performance in India

Explosive Opening Weekend (June 27–29)

F1 The Movie hit the ground running with an opening day collection of ₹5.36 crore, an impressive feat for an English-language Hollywood film without a conventional Bollywood connection. The excitement built rapidly over the weekend, with Saturday bringing ₹7.26 crore and Sunday ₹7.95 crore, totaling ₹20.57 crore over its first three days.

This weekend surge was powered by enthusiastic audiences in metropolitan hubs such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Chennai, where multiplex culture is thriving and motorsport fandom is on the rise. This performance not only outpaced many local films but also proved the viability of Hollywood sports dramas in India.

Sustained Growth Through the First Week

The film’s success didn’t slow down after the opening weekend. By the end of its first week (June 27 to July 3), F1 The Movie had amassed ₹34.78 crore in India. The film was particularly popular in multiplexes where English-speaking and motorsport fan audiences are concentrated. This week-over-week growth highlights strong word-of-mouth promotion and positive critical reception.

Strong Second Week Performance

Even after the initial hype, F1 The Movie continued to attract viewers in its second week, grossing a total of ₹43.28 crore by July 10. The film’s Saturday collections alone accounted for ₹5.25 crore, proving its lasting appeal despite competition from new releases. The sustained interest indicates that the movie’s thrilling race sequences and emotional depth have connected well with the audience.

F1 The Movie’s Global Box Office Triumph

Internationally, F1 The Movie has been a blockbuster, earning over ₹1,375 crore (approximately $160 million) worldwide. Of this, about ₹800 crore came from overseas markets including North America, Europe, and the Middle East. This global success underlines the universal appeal of the story and motorsport’s growing popularity worldwide.

Critical Acclaim and Audience Reception

The movie’s gripping narrative, combined with realistic race visuals, has earned praise from both critics and audiences alike. Renowned Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar called it an “exhilarating and entertaining experience,” noting how it keeps viewers at the edge of their seats despite a somewhat predictable plot. Fans appreciate the film’s attention to detail in showcasing the technicalities of Formula 1 racing, something rarely explored in Indian cinema.

Regional Performance Breakdown

While major metros witnessed packed theaters and high occupancy, smaller cities showed moderate interest, mostly among niche motorsport fans. Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad stood out as strongholds for the film’s success, with screenings in Tamil and Telugu languages contributing significantly to collections. The film’s appeal among urban English-speaking audiences and youth has paved the way for more Hollywood films with niche themes to find footing in India.

Who Appears in the Film?

F1 The Movie brings real F1 stars to the big screen, adding excitement and realism. Lewis Hamilton, who also produced the film, makes a special appearance. He’s joined by Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz Jr., Pierre Gasly ,George Russell and Lando Norris.

These cameos were not just for show. In fact, many were filmed during real Grand Prix weekends, including at Silverstone and Hungaroring. This helped blend fiction with the fast-paced world of F1, making scenes more immersive and authentic.

What F1 The Movie’s Success Means for Hollywood in India

F1 The Movie’s strong box office numbers demonstrate a rising appetite in India for Hollywood films beyond the traditional superhero or action genres. This motorsport drama’s success opens doors for more diverse storytelling and niche genres to gain popularity. Additionally, it highlights the potential of Indian audiences to appreciate technically rich and sports-centric films, encouraging studios to invest more in localized marketing and regional language screenings.
