Arunachal Pradesh authorities recently stopped 8,936 people from entering the state without valid Inner Line Permits (ILP) during inspections at worksites and projects. Of these, 7,351 individuals were deported, while the rest later presented valid permits, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chuku Apa.
The newly launched ILP 3.0 introduced reforms that close previous loopholes in the permit system. IGP Apa said, “Once the new rules are fully enforced, authorities will effectively tackle illegal entry.”

Securing the Porous Assam-Arunachal Border
Arunachal Pradesh shares a porous border with Assam, which complicates border security. IGP Apa stressed that frequent on-site checks and inner line drives are crucial for stopping illegal movement. These operations cover construction sites, workplaces, and other areas vulnerable to unauthorized access.
Market Inspections Ensure Compliance
Authorities also conduct checks at weekly markets, where illegal entry often occurs. These inspections follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the Home Department and carried out by the Deputy Administration and local police. The SOPs make sure enforcement is consistent without affecting normal market activities.
Tackling Illegal Immigration
Addressing concerns about Bangladeshi immigrants, IGP Apa explained that authorities verify the background of suspicious individuals. Officials check hometowns, places of origin, and other identification details. These measures aim to prevent illegal entry and protect the state’s demographic balance.
ILP 3.0 Brings Transparency and Awareness
ILP 3.0 not only strengthens enforcement but also provides a clearer process for residents and visitors. Authorities are raising awareness about the importance of valid ILPs and the penalties for entering the state illegally.
Community Support Boosts Enforcement
IGP Apa highlighted that local community cooperation plays a key role in detecting unauthorized entries. Residents reporting suspicious movement help authorities respond quickly. The Deputy Administration and police continue to monitor sensitive border points, ensuring consistent application of ILP regulations.
Through these measures, Arunachal Pradesh aims to reduce illegal entry, enhance border security, and protect the state’s unique cultural identity. Officials are confident that full implementation of ILP 3.0 will significantly decrease unauthorized movements in the coming months.
