Police Recover Suspected Anti-Aircraft Ammunition in South West Garo Hills

Acting on credible intelligence, a joint team of police from Salmanpara and Ampati Police Stations carried out a search operation in Meghalaya’s South West Garo Hills district. The operation took place on January 6 and led to a major recovery of suspected live ammunition.

The discovery has raised serious security concerns in the region, prompting an intensified investigation by law enforcement agencies.


Search Operation Conducted Near Santogre Village

According to police officials, the search operation was conducted in a bamboo grove near Santogre village. The area falls under the jurisdiction of Salmanpara Police Station.

During the search, police recovered 55 suspected live anti-aircraft ammunition buried underground. The ammunition was carefully unearthed and secured to prevent any risk to public safety.

Ammunition Seized Following Legal Procedure

Officials confirmed that the seized ammunition was taken into custody following all legal protocols. The recovery process was carried out in the presence of independent witnesses to ensure transparency.

Police have sent the recovered items for further examination to determine their exact nature, condition, and potential origin.


Investigation Underway to Trace Source

Meanwhile, investigators have launched a detailed probe to trace how the ammunition reached the site. Efforts are underway to identify the individuals or groups responsible for illegally storing the explosives.

Authorities are also examining whether the recovered ammunition has any links to militant activities or organized crime networks operating in the region.


Police Seek Public Cooperation

The police have appealed to local residents to come forward with any information related to the case. Officials assured that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.

To encourage public cooperation, the police have also announced that rewards will be offered for credible information leading to arrests.


Security Measures Likely to Be Tightened

Following the recovery, security measures in sensitive areas of South West Garo Hills are expected to be strengthened. Police said such operations will continue to prevent illegal activities and ensure public safety.

Authorities emphasized that community support remains crucial in maintaining peace and security in the district.
