Family sources said Purkayastha’s last rites will take place on Thursday in Silchar. Large numbers of party workers and admirers are expected to attend the funeral.
He is survived by his son, Kanad Purkayastha, a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, and a daughter. His wife passed away earlier.
