According to the police, several posts circulating on social media claimed that petrol, diesel, and LPG stocks were running low in Assam. However, authorities clarified that these claims are false and that there is no shortage of essential fuels in the state. Officials stressed that fuel supply remains stable and distribution is continuing normally.

Authorities Urge People to Trust Official Sources

Meanwhile, the police urged citizens to rely only on verified information from government departments and authorised agencies. They also asked people not to forward unverified messages on social media platforms, as doing so may contribute to panic buying and long queues at petrol pumps or LPG distribution centres.

Furthermore, Assam Police said that spreading misinformation intentionally could invite strict legal action. Authorities warned that those responsible for creating or sharing such rumours could face charges under relevant sections of the law dealing with public mischief and spreading false information.

Strict Action Against Misinformation

Police officials emphasised that misinformation during sensitive situations can lead to serious consequences. For instance, rumours about shortages often trigger panic purchases, which may temporarily disrupt supply systems even when adequate stock is available.

Therefore, the police are closely monitoring social media platforms and messaging applications to track the origin of such rumours. If necessary, cybercrime units will identify individuals responsible for spreading misleading information and take appropriate legal action.

Fuel Supply in Assam Remains Stable

Officials also reassured the public that there is sufficient stock of LPG cylinders and petroleum products in the state. Supply chains are functioning smoothly, and there are no disruptions in fuel transportation or distribution.

Consequently, the government has urged people to remain calm and avoid unnecessary panic buying. By relying on verified information and acting responsibly, citizens can help ensure that essential services continue without disruption.

In conclusion, Assam Police reiterated that rumours about fuel or LPG shortages are baseless. The department has appealed to the public to cooperate with authorities and report any misleading information circulating online.
