Ajmal Calls for Strong Opposition Alliance

Ajmal welcomed the announcement of the election schedule. However, he stressed the importance of political unity among opposition parties.

He said non-BJP parties should work together to challenge the ruling party in the upcoming elections.

According to Ajmal, a united opposition can strengthen democratic competition. Therefore, he urged regional and national parties to cooperate politically.

Demand for Fair Electoral Process

Ajmal also emphasised that the Election Commission must maintain neutrality throughout the election process.

He stated that authorities should conduct elections without discrimination toward any political party.

Additionally, he said democratic governance becomes stronger when election authorities ensure transparency and fairness.

Ajmal further noted that equal treatment of all parties builds public trust in elections.

Election Commission Announces Poll Schedule

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India released the election schedule for five states and one union territory.

The elections will cover 824 constituencies and involve nearly 17.4 crore voters.

Polling will take place in phases. For example, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry will vote on April 9.

Meanwhile, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu will hold polling on April 23.

Authorities will count the votes on May 4.

Massive Election Arrangements

Election officials have prepared extensive logistical arrangements to manage the voting process.

Authorities will set up around 2.19 lakh polling stations across the states.

Additionally, nearly 25 lakh personnel will manage election duties and security.

These arrangements aim to ensure smooth voting and maintain law and order during the polls.

Model Code of Conduct Enforced

The election schedule announcement immediately triggered the Model Code of Conduct.

This code regulates government announcements and campaign activities during elections.

As a result, political parties must now follow strict guidelines while campaigning.

Authorities will monitor these rules until the election process ends.

Location Context: Importance of Assam Elections

Elections in Assam significantly influence the political landscape of Northeast India.

The state plays a key role in regional politics due to its population size and economic importance.
