Guwahati murder accused Ramanuj Goswami on Tuesday claimed he had no regrets or apology after allegedly killing his wife, Riya Talukdar, in Guwahati. He also threatened to kill a person he described as a “sugar daddy” after serving his jail term.
Goswami made the remarks while being taken to a court in Guwahati. Police are investigating the killing and have not yet established the motive or verified the identity of the person mentioned in his statement.

Goswami was produced before a court on Tuesday, a day after he was remanded to seven days of police custody. He had surrendered before police late on Sunday night after remaining away from the couple’s apartment for nearly two days.
Speaking to reporters in Assamese, Goswami said he had killed his wife and would kill the person he called the “sugar daddy” after his release. When reporters repeatedly asked him to identify the individual, he became angry and behaved rudely with members of the media.
He later said he had “no regrets, no apologies”. The remarks were made in public while police were escorting him to court.

The case came to light on September 6 after neighbours reported a foul smell from the couple’s apartment. Residents also told police that they had not seen the newly married couple for about two days and that both mobile phones were switched off.
Police then broke open the locked apartment and found Talukdar’s body inside. Investigators said her fingers had been partially chopped and that the body had started decomposing. Her head was not found with the body.
During a search of the apartment, police recovered the severed head from a refrigerator. It had reportedly been kept inside a polythene bag. The body and head were sent for autopsy.
Talukdar was identified as a 25-year-old woman who had married Goswami only a few months earlier. Police later began searching for Goswami, who was not present when officers entered the apartment.
Police probe focuses on alleged murder
Investigators suspect Goswami attacked Talukdar with a sharp weapon following an altercation. However, the precise circumstances surrounding the alleged killing remain under investigation.
Police are questioning the accused to reconstruct what happened before and after Talukdar’s death. They are also examining the statement about the alleged “sugar daddy”, including who the person may be and whether that claim has any connection with the killing.
Goswami surrendered to police on Sunday night. A court subsequently sent him to seven days of police custody, allowing investigators time to question him and gather further evidence.
At this stage, the allegations against Goswami remain part of an ongoing criminal investigation. His statements to reporters do not by themselves establish the full circumstances of the death or the motive.
