The Dibrugarh school incident involving 12 Class VII students has prompted an official inquiry after the children sustained superficial cuts to their hands at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School. The incident took place during a class break on Thursday, September 10.

According to school sources, the students reportedly treated the activity as a “fun game”. One student allegedly made a cut and challenged others to do the same. However, officials have not confirmed that the incident was linked to a specific online game or viral challenge.

Dibrugarh school incident involves 12 students

The Dibrugarh school incident came to light after 12 students were found to have sustained minor injuries. Reports said the students used small blades removed from pencil sharpeners kept in their geometry boxes.

The injuries were described as superficial. There were no reports of serious harm, although slight bleeding was reported. School authorities arranged medical attention for the affected students.

Eight students were reportedly given anti-tetanus injections, while the remaining children also received necessary medical care. Officials said all the students were stable.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under examination. Authorities are expected to establish how the activity began and what prompted several students to participate.

District administration orders detailed inquiry

The Dibrugarh school incident led the district administration to order a formal inquiry on Friday. Dibrugarh District Commissioner Bikram Kairi visited the school and reviewed the situation.

Inspector of Schools, Dibrugarh, Kabita Deka, has been tasked with conducting the inquiry. She has been directed to examine all relevant facts and circumstances connected with the incident.

The inquiry report must be submitted to the district commissioner within seven days. The District Child Protection Officer has also been asked to assist during the investigation.

Officials examine circumstances

The inquiry is important because the available accounts do not yet establish whether the incident was connected to an online trend. Some reports have described it as a game or dare, while other coverage has referred to a possible online challenge.

Therefore, the administration’s findings will be important in determining what actually led to the students’ actions.

The principal of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School has been instructed to cooperate with the inquiry team and coordinate with the Inspector of Schools.

Counselling planned for students and parents

Alongside the inquiry, authorities and the school are focusing on the students’ welfare. Counselling sessions are being arranged for the affected children and their parents.

Counsellors from Dibrugarh University have also been called to interact with the students. The aim is to understand the circumstances and provide appropriate support following the incident.

The school has also planned a meeting with the parents of Class VII students. Such discussions could help teachers and families understand how the activity developed and how similar incidents can be prevented.

School safety remains under focus

The Dibrugarh school incident has raised questions about student supervision and awareness of risks associated with sharp objects. At the same time, officials have not assigned blame while the inquiry is underway.

The administration’s decision to seek a detailed report allows the circumstances to be examined before any further action is considered. This approach also avoids treating unverified claims about an online challenge as established fact.

Meanwhile, medical care and counselling remain the immediate priorities for the students involved.

Probe expected to clarify what happened

The Dibrugarh school incident remains under official investigation, with authorities expected to receive the inquiry report within seven days. The report should provide a clearer account of how the incident began and why 12 students became involved.

For now, officials have confirmed the injuries and the launch of an inquiry, while reports about a specific gaming or online challenge remain unverified. Further action, if required, is expected to follow the findings of the investigation.
