Rakibul Hussain has come under a fresh attack from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who alleged that the Congress MP had insulted his mother and father. The latest exchange has added a personal dimension to the increasingly heated campaign for the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll.

Sarma made the allegation while campaigning in Assam, where the BJP and Congress have stepped up attacks on each other ahead of voting on October 6. The Chief Minister and Rakibul Hussain have already traded sharp remarks over food, politics and alleged corruption during the campaign.

Rakibul Hussain faces fresh allegation from Sarma

Sarma’s latest charge against Rakibul Hussain centres on comments that he said crossed a line by referring to his parents. The allegation remains a statement made by the Chief Minister and should not be treated as an independently established fact.

The exchange comes after Sarma and Hussain began trading remarks during the Nagaon campaign. Sarma had earlier compared Hussain to Bakasura, a figure from Hindu mythology associated with an enormous appetite, while also alleging that he had consumed funds intended for government schemes.

Hussain responded with a sarcastic reference to biryani. The comments then prompted another response from Sarma during a public rally.

Rakibul Hussain and the biryani remarks

On October 1, Sarma intensified his criticism of Rakibul Hussain at a rally in Juria in the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency. He said people born to drink their mother’s milk were human beings, while those born to eat biryani were animals.

The remark followed Hussain’s earlier sarcastic response to the Chief Minister’s Bakasura reference. According to reports, Hussain said that God had sent him into the world to eat biryani. The exchange quickly became a prominent part of the campaign rhetoric between the two leaders.

However, the dispute is not limited to food-related comments. Sarma has also targeted Hussain over his political record, while Hussain has continued to campaign for the Congress in the constituency.

Nagaon bypoll campaign grows sharper

The comments come at a critical stage of the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll campaign. Voting is scheduled for October 6, while counting is set for October 9. The seat became vacant after former Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi resigned from the Lok Sabha and later joined the BJP.

The BJP has fielded Devasish Sharma, while Congress has nominated Sibamoni Bora. Sarma has been campaigning for the BJP candidate and has used several rallies to attack Congress leaders.

Meanwhile, Rakibul Hussain has remained an important Congress campaigner. He represents Dhubri in the Lok Sabha and has played a prominent role in the party’s activities in Assam. Parliamentary data records him as a Congress MP from Dhubri.

Rakibul Hussain remains central to Congress campaign

The contest has also brought wider Congress-BJP differences into focus. Sarma has accused Congress and AIUDF of working together, while also attacking Congress MLA Nurul Huda over development issues in Rupohihat. Those claims are political allegations and have been made as part of the ongoing campaign.

For Congress, Rakibul Hussain has continued to defend the party’s position while taking part in campaigning across the constituency. His exchanges with Sarma have therefore become one of the more visible features of the bypoll campaign.

At the same time, the increasingly personal nature of the rhetoric has drawn attention away from the policy and development issues also being raised at rallies.

Rakibul Hussain clash adds heat before voting

The latest allegation involving Rakibul Hussain adds another layer to an already intense political contest. Sarma’s comments about Hussain’s alleged remarks concerning his parents are part of the wider verbal confrontation between the two leaders.

The coming days will determine whether the campaign remains focused on personal exchanges or shifts back towards local issues and the competing promises of the candidates. With voting only days away, both parties are continuing their final outreach across the Nagaon constituency.

The immediate focus now is on October 6, when voters in the constituency will cast their ballots. The result, due on October 9, will provide the formal electoral outcome of a campaign that has featured increasingly sharp exchanges between Sarma and Rakibul Hussain.
