The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is taking steps to enhance its cybersecurity infrastructure by conducting a security audit of all its applications and data centre network. The decision comes amid an increase in cyberattack incidents targeting various organizations, including government agencies.

To carry out the security audit, NDMC has decided to hire a cybersecurity consulting agency on a three-year term. The agency will be responsible for assessing the vulnerabilities of NDMC’s applications and network infrastructure, and providing recommendations for improvement.

According to an NDMC official, the decision to conduct the security audit was prompted by the increasing sophistication of hackers and the growing risk of cyberattacks. Despite regular efforts to keep the system robust, the official said that expanding operations means that the risk is always present.

The move to conduct a security audit is a proactive step by NDMC to ensure the protection of its critical assets and data from cyber threats. A successful cyberattack could result in significant financial and reputational damage for the organization, as well as compromise the security of its stakeholders.

The NDMC has already floated a tender for the cybersecurity consulting agency and is expected to select a vendor soon. The three-year term of the agency is a clear indication of NDMC’s commitment to improving its cybersecurity infrastructure and ensuring the long-term protection of its critical assets.
