Suraj Tiwari and Akhila B S, two inspiring candidates, overcame physical challenges to clear the UPSC exam held in 2022. Suraj, from Uttar Pradesh, lost his legs and right arm in a train accident in 2017, while Akhila, from Kerala, lost her right arm in a bus accident when she was five years old.

Suraj’s parents expressed their pride and happiness, praising their brave son for his achievement. Suraj cleared the exam on his first attempt and secured the 917th rank. Akhila, on the other hand, plans to reappear for the exam next year to improve her rank. She aims to become an IAS officer but felt her current rank of 760 might not suffice.

Among the 933 candidates recommended by the UPSC for different services, the top four positions in the ranks are held by girls, with only one boy in the top five. One of the notable candidates is Garima Lohia, who secured the second rank without any coaching despite the loss of her father four years ago.

These inspiring individuals serve as examples of determination and perseverance, motivating other aspirants to overcome obstacles and pursue their dreams.

Akhila BS, determined to achieve her goal of becoming an IAS officer, expressed her happiness despite her rank of 760 in the UPSC exam. She plans to reappear for the exam next year to improve her rank. Akhila, the daughter of a former headmaster at Cotton Hill Government Girls High School in Thiruvananthapuram, lost her right arm in a bus accident on September 11, 2000. As per her statement to ANI, this was her first attempt at the exam, and she remains motivated to prepare for the upcoming exam and fulfill her aspirations.
